This article describes a source distribution of gnu/linux which is
implemented and pakckage managed in one script.

http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=8530

Here is the script.

ftp://ftp.walrond.org/rubyx/

The script is in ruby. My claim is that ruby is so transparent that a
programmer without knowledge of ruby can read this script and understand
the process of linux distribution and package management.

If I am right, I believe that rubyx is a killer app. I am not the only
person
that gets lost in the python or perl monstrosities used to implement other
distributions.

A challenging project for a group of bright programmers would be to
understand the distribution and package management problem by reverse
engineering this script. And presenting their understanding at a lug
meeting.

An interesting note Andrew is developing a distributed gaming system and
he needs optimized linux systems to support his gamers. Rubyx is his
way of creating thousands of game platforms.

He wrote his own BT in c++ to support his project. When rubyx was first
announced on /. he got /.ed. So he took the time to write white water. Now
as new users download rubyx he offers them the opportunity to become ww
servers. If you download rubyx, a number of servers throughout the world
will cooperate to send you the system w/o being /.ed.

If you understand the above, then you should visit rubyx.org.
