Maybe you could boot a CD image, using the floppy?Searching for "Smart Boot Manager" brings me to: http://btmgr.sourceforge.net/about.html I think this is the same Smart Boot Manager that comes (or used to come) on the DVD that comes with Linux Format magazine. It's an image for a floppy, which you can boot off. When it comes up, it allows you to boot from CD-ROM. It's for PCs which can only boot from floppy or hd, but which have a CD-ROM drive attached, i.e. what's stopping a boot from CD-ROM, is the BIOS. The PC may not be able to load the boot image from the CD-ROM, but Smart Boot Manager can. They say it will boot off a CD-ROM connected via PCMCIA. Doesn't say anything about whether it can handle devices attached via USB, though. Frank |
