Hi all

I was looking at maybe upgrading the SFF's guts - something like

MSI PM8M3-V Socket 775 mATX DDR400 AGP
http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.aspx?sku=317064&view=detailed
£27
Intel Pentium 4 631 3.0GHz Socket LGA775, 2MB, BOXED w/fan
http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.aspx?sku=317592
or
Intel Pentium 4 524 3.06GHz Socket LGA775, 1MB, BOXED w/fan
http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.aspx?sku=320818

Both £40

Alternatively, can anyone recommend a better route? Ideally i'd really like more memory than 1GB, and perhaps i could spend a little extra on a PCI-E card... something like

I would suggest the following;

ASRock CoreDual VSTA ATX http://tinyurl.com/2omusw £ 38.26 inc VAT then you can re-use the AGP card but not mATX
Core 2 Duo e2160 1.8ghz http://tinyurl.com/2vwlkw  £ 58.13 inc VAT
2x 1GB Crucial PC5300 kit http://tinyurl.com/2pffd4 £ 41.46 inc VAT
dabsvalue Midi Tower ATX case with no PSU http://tinyurl.com/2wzqhb £ 21.94 inc VAT

Total £ 159.79 with free delivery on a free delivery weekend (usually every 2 weeks at dabs might be one this weekend). You could then probably overclock the Core 2 Duo e2160 to 2.7ghz 300 x 9 on this motherboard if you so wished but even at 1.8ghz it will be faster then any of the CPU you suggested. There are cases with a bigger PSU for a few pounds more.
