Long story made short, I upgraded my 8.04 LTS to 8.10 with a good deal f
assistance, dpkg and apt-get clean. It will not upgrade to 9.04 so that
I can move up to 9.10. When I try to open Synaptic I receive the
following;
> E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure
> -a' to correct the problem.

> E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

I am two full days getting to this point and I have backed up my Home
Directory to DVD. Would I be better off t cease trying to grow sme hair
to pull out and just do a clean install from the live cd? I have been
running the i386 on my dual core because I see no justification for
swapping to the 64 bit yet. Because I d web site work fr a friend and
he foolishly spent 600 dollars for a years hosting with Homestead I must
run windoz in the VirtualBox to work on his one website. This setup has
2 gig of memory, the dual core AMD ad the disk is formatted in ext3.
I'm sorry for the length of this but thank you in advance.
