I seem to have had a similar problem when I tried to double boot and
only solved the problem by making sure that the windows was upto date
with all the updates. I was told that with XP for example unless all the
updates were in place Ubuntu virtually killed windows and then, of
course, Error 12 would appear because there was no windows to boot.
