Thanks for the feedback.  Of course, probably not an Ubuntu problem. 
But, since so many people have the same problem, there must be someone
around here who knows how to fix it.  

I did notice that someone mentioning that compiliing a new kernel would
do the trick.  However, I'm still relatively new in all of this and I
don't know how or what is involved.  I suppose that is what I should do
right now.  :)
