Network sharing has afaik nothing to do with ssh...?! You need to ensure
that port 22 is open for incoming connections (check with iptables -nL,
in case of doubt, please post it here).
I don't quite get the difference between "remote machines" and "local
one"; please be a bit more specific. Do you use two NICs on your Ubuntu box?
