I've been running my Dell 4000 for some weeks now on ethernet and this is
the first problem I've run into!
I configured a dial-up connection and had to install wvdial, which
appeared to install fine. The configuration in
computer/systemconfig/networking looked pretty straight forward.
First question (dumb): How to do I invoke a connection? Presumably not
from the command line? I can't find anything in any menu. Is this because
I didn't install dial-up during the initial install? Should I add
something manually to a menu, and if so what? wvdial? Any parameters?
Second: When I invoke wvdial from the command line I get:
warning: section [Dialer Defaults] does not exist in wvdial.conf
Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory
Third: When I completed the config for dial-up in
Computer/SystemConfig/Networking I was asked for my password, which I then
found stored in plain text in /etc/wvdial !! Surely this isn't a good
idea?
Sadly, I can't dial-up yet. Any help would be appreciated.
