I wouldn't give wackypedia the time of day, it is written by fuckwitted
sheep and Einstein dingleberries all bleating the same baa. 

Charged particles travelling at velocities greater than 300,000 km/sec
in atmosphere cause Cherenkov radiation, and that's just what is
happening with the aurora as these images clearly demonstrate.
