Possibly because none felt it necessary to do so.  It pretty
clearly is.

To return to the North Sea connection mentioned earlier,
<http://de.wiktionary.org/wiki/Boot> says that the German
word is from ME by way of MLG, and the Grimms at least
confirm that it's a late arrival, suggesting an English or
Dutch source.
