The earliest form known so far is Magdalenian REP,
from the permutation group of PER, present in
CER REP --- sun snake protecting the descending
sun horse in the afternoon; ancient Greek repo for
I bow, incline (consider also Latin reptilis for repitile)
As a time of the day, CER REP means the later afternoon,
specifically 4 o'clock on June 21. Have a look at my drawing:
www.seshat.ch/home/torque.JPG The complete permutation
group is found in my etymological thread, google for per rep
in sci.lang. The recent meaning of repent has come a long
way from the hypothetical Magdalenian word in the above
context, although it remained faithful to the meaning of
bowing, inclining, and creeping, the latter metaphorically.
