Look (I don't believe this..), .. You, as a lay member of the public
with a passing interest in geology, should expect more of people
passing themselves off as professionals with an opinion. Here you've
got this bloke, calling himself 'george' claiming some sort of
consensus legitimacy, .. giving opinions, ..and you're thanking him
for them, when you should be doing everything else but, ..and calling
him a fool into the bargain. You should do that, because if you don't
you're abrogating your responsibility (as are all other 'real'
geologists on this ng) to keep this bastard honest. He thinks by
hiding his head in his killfile and smiling at you he can get away with
it.
Let's look at what he's saying (as the consensus rep.- the more
sensible others are keeping their collective heads down). On the very
best of USGS , NASA, and Stuart Weinstein (as a fully paid-up member of
the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre) authority,

what he's saying is that the moving continental crust rides over the
mantle pushing it down (at subduction zones). This
pushing-the-maqntle-down returns it back down into the mantle where it
is resorbed. At the same time, the horizontal component of this 'push'
operates right back to the spreading ridge to *pull* it apart and cause
the 'hotspot' he's talking about that goes all around the world.
What you've got to ask him, is, ... how does this push' of moving
continents "riding over the mantle" *pull* the ocean crust apart to
make spreading ridges and hotspots? And then, after he flusters and
blusters his way around that one, you have to ask him how does this
'push' act to push the whole spreading ridge - all of it - under
America at the same time as pulling it apart?
Go on, ..ask him. You're allowed. He won't see this post because he
has it killfiled. He's like that, is our George, ...claiming
legitimacy on the back of the rubbish people put in front of him to
read. George will read *anything* - even 'how-to' instructions before
trying things out for himself. He's such a clown, waiting for the
fat lady to sing ( ..indeed) too, not even recognising he's the fattest
fat lady of them all, warbling the nonsense he does.
