Hi everyone,
Whilst I was reading about this animal, an image of a creature that still
lives sprung to mind - The Giant Otter Shrew (Potamogale velox) from the
Congolese jungles.
It has the same size, appearance, diet and also lives in a waterside burrow.
In fact everything that the fossil animal was supposed to do. If you don't
believe me, google up "The Giant Otter Shrew (Potamogale velox)" and look
for the pics of it and compare them to the article's picture of the fossil
animal.

MiRe.
Yeah. About the same size as a rat. That makes more sense than a 1.1 pound
beaver.
Well I thought of the Pleistocene giant beaver. We had a walk around the
tables looking at specimens paleo final. The TA, (also into the final
weeks of his master's) had a cartoon of the giant beaver at the last
station. It said: "Look at the Giant Beaver. Look at its giant teeth. On
your exam, draw a picture of its giant burrow and the giant lake which
was formed by the giant beaver dam." Believe it or not, some of my
fellow students got that question wrong....
