But you wasted the money chasing the corporations....
In 1984/85 you could have purchased Newmont (NEM: NYSE) at just over $3 a
share. In 1987 the stock splkit twice. Once a 2 to 1 and the second in
October of that year was a 3 to 2 split.
Even if you only had $5000 to invest in 1984 you would still today have over
3800 shares of stock yielding you .7% and paying you a dividend of $0.40 per
share. That's $1500 USD just to fire off comments at the annual meetings....
If I were you I would have used te $1500 to book a flght and hotel and
voised your concerns inperson at the annual shareholders meeting.
Now figuring you bought $5000 worth of shares @ $3.50 in 1984 that would
have been 1428 shares. By the time of the second split after which you would
have had over 3800 shares, you could have sold those shares in January 1990
at $40.00...
40-3.5 = 36.50 per share profit.. Now multiply that by the # of shares you
would have had, which would have been over 3800.... 3800 x 36.5 that's over
$138000 in sheer profit. and that's in U.S. Dollars not Francs.
If you had put aside your foolish pride and though clearly, you could have
had your cake and ate it too.
Had you held on until 1996 you could have sold the stock at about$60....
Lets call it $58 for arguments sake. So you bought at $3.50 with only $5000,
adjusting for the splits, you now have over 3800 shares yielding you a tidy
$1500 per year in dividends, with a value of.... ready...... OVER $200,000
You could have sold, put the money in the bank, with an interest rate of 5%
you would have cleared $10000 a year in interest.........
Don't you feel stupid?
You should.... No matter what happened, you screwed yourself.

See? There you go again. Not thinking clearly... The best way to get a
company to listen to you is to buy as much of their stock as you can, then
go to the shareholders meetings ( ALL companies have them annually) and
voice your concerns there ( They open up the meetings to Q&A after the
statement of the financials)... You could have possibly won over some of the
people that own "controlling intrests" in the company... But no, you went
about it wrong.

And that's what this is all about.... CREDIT. Nevermind that you could have
lived comfortably for the rest of your life and been an annual heckler at

it off. Start you own company, buy some equipment on credit and give them
