Near as we can figure, my left handedness is because Mom sat across the
table to feed me as a baby, and I just 'mirrored' her actions with a
spoon. My left eye is bad, that's why my right eye is dominant. My
next brother (13 mos younger) is also lefthanded--for a few things--he
claims he watched and imitated me. Then there is a 6 year gap, and the
younger 3 sibs are righties. By then, Mom was sitting next to them at
the table to feed them, not across from them. I learned to knit as a
mere small girl (righthanded) by sitting next to my righthanded aunt,
not across from her, and imitating. But I never did learn to crochet,
do French knot embroidery--(nasty righthanded knots) nor to do
shorthand--all notoriously righty tasks.
Nary another southpaw anywhere else back either family tree.
