Well said.

A gasoline engine runs most efficiently when its combustion temperature is high and exhaust temperature is low. Cooling cylinders effectively reduces combustion temperature. However, appropriate cooling is necessary to prevent engine melt down.

Theoretically, the efficiency of a heat engine is dependent on a temperature difference. The larger the temperature difference the more efficient the engine. During the power stroke, a gasoline-air explosion drives a piston away from the head. Hottest explosions are most powerful, and most efficient because heat loss is minimized.
