The lower the load, the greater the theoritical efficiency. The
reported zero load efficiency would be the limiting case as the load
goes toward zero. According to the MIT slides, this 100%. They do not
show a derivation.
Actually the zero load efficiency is undefined. Zero input, zero
output; zero divided by zero is meaningless but the limiting case can
be calculated for most continuous functions.
In the highly unlikely case that fuel cell become widely used, the
efficiency will increase while the weight will decrease. How much is
subject to dispute until actual working models are deployed.
