Actually, no; the context did seem to mean that you meant it
categorically.
However, not only was access to the Internet not available in Southeast
Asia at that time, there was *no* World Wide Web, and so you would not
have been able to look up telescope ads at that time on the Internet,
even had you lived a sheltered civilian life within the shores of the
lower 48 states.
