Even if all those things had pagan antecedents, my statement still stands:
throwing things in bogs is not a Christian practice. The closest you will
get is the habit some people have of tossing coins into fountains or wells -
and fountains are not bogs and coins are not faith objects.

So to keep it from being spoiled by non-believers, you spoil it in the bog?
Much more sensible just to hide it behind a bush or under a stone.
