I agree. Likely the war was about something else, but I just never
thought it was imperialistic, per se. Possibly because I'm not aware
of any mention of the Greeks having stayed and occupied Troy
afterwards.

What I had in mind was the Greek colonial culture that ranged from Asia
Minor to the Western Mediterranean and produced innovations in
philosophy, science, architecture, etc. Suppose I would categorize
what I mean as being from roughly 750 BC, through the time of Socrates
and Plato, and perhaps ending with Alexander.
