Er, no - I didn't mean to imply that. MS has the right of it there;
it's another one of those things that the binutils folks acknowledge
as a weakness. I can't find the reference at the moment.
FWIW, the combination of -ffunction-sections, -fdata-sections, and
-Wl,--gc-sections should accomplish approximately the same thing (if
it works on your platform).
