Team Cymru, Inc. is looking for a dedicated, hard-working junior
Perl/mod_perl developer to complement our existing research staff and work
on software development tasks as needed throughout the organization. Team
Cymru is a non-profit corporation of technologists interested in making the
Internet more secure, a group of geeks who are passionate about network
security and helping the community identify and eradicate problems within
their networks.
The chosen Junior Perl Developer will work under the Manager of Development
to provide Perl development services to several business units within Team
Cymru, including taking a leading role on existing and new projects, while
receiving development guidance and support from the rest of the team.
Candidates must be able to work well independently, and may be asked to
work remotely from home rather than in a traditional office environment.
Projects will include both web-based applications using mod_perl,
HTML::Mason, and other technologies, as well as back-end processing
applications, handling large quantities of data. This is a full-time,
permanent, salaried position.
Required skills:
* 2-3 years of Perl development experience
* Experience developing and maintaining web-based applications, including
scalability and security concepts
* Experience with SQL databases, such as MySQL or PostgreSQL
* General understanding of object-oriented programming concepts
* General understanding of basic networking/Internet concepts, (HTTP, SMTP,
DNS, BGP routing, IP addressing, etc)
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Excellent time-management skills and ability to work towards deadlines
with minimal supervision
Desired skills:
* Experience with building object-oriented applications in Perl
* Experience with building web-based applications in mod_perl, and
understanding of the mod_perl environment
* Experience with HTML::Mason, Apache, and PostgreSQL
* Experience with network and application security
* Experience with scaling applications to support large quantities of data
and large numbers of users
* Experience with data visualization tools
