Description:
Designs and implements high performance Perl applications in a modular
architecture using CPAN and in-house developed Perl modules. Develops
software interfaces with various databases and systems. Implements user
interfaces with various web development technologies. Designs and
implements database schemas. Maintains existing source code. Tests,
debugs and documents software. Gathers software requirements and defines
system specifications. Serves as member of the MCCS Research, Development
and Integration team by contributing to the development of MCCS business
analysis tools hosted on an open platform leveraging web based technologies
and open source utilities.
May perform routine and recurring assignments in applications software.
Identifies and resolves issues and problems. May prepare and update
manuals, instructions, and operating procedures. Provides information and
assistance to customers. Evaluates established methods and procedures and
prepares recommendations for changes in methods and practices where
appropriate. Ensures the application of appropriate security measures to
the assignment.
Provides superior customer service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists
customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges
customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine,
verify and solve problems. Ensures satisfaction on the quality of goods
and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the
supervisor or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.
Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety
equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any
observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or
property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate
supervisor.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required skills:
Four years of experience in Perl development. Ability to develop custom
Perl packages using Object Oriented techniques, build complex data
structures using references, hashes and arrays, and design software
solutions based on requirements. Demonstrated experience working in a Unix
environment. Experience using UNIX based text editors and development
tools. Skill to perform routine and recurring assignments, and identify,
evaluate, analyze and resolve issues and problems in application software.
Skill using the following technologies: X/HTML, CSS, XML, DOM, and SQL.
Desired skills:
Familiarity with the following technologies is a plus: MySQL, Apache,
mod_perl, Mason, Java and Javascript.
