(or "opens with" in "Properties") to block this?

For example, I set files *.reg to open in Notepad,
thus derailing attempts to merge them by default into my registry;
when I want to actually merge them into my registry,
I select "merge" instead of "open,"
or supply their name as an argument to a "regedit /s" command.

I presume the same could have been done with command scripts.
