mail account not in mail panel

My pop email account is not in the mail panel.  It was there yesterday but  
is not there today.  Newsgroups are in the mail panel and work.  Under  
tools > manage accounts my email account shows up correctly.  I get a pop  
up message when a new email arrives but cannot read the email.
