In other words, Opera is working as designed and there is no bug. You
two seem to be assuming that a thread should either be expanded or
collapsed, whereas the ability to expand only a subthread is very useful
when dealing with long threads and I'd hate to see it taken away as the
result of fixing this "bug".
There is no such concept as a 'subthread'. You can't specify which part of
a thread should remain collapsed and which should not. The current
misbehaviour is totally counter-intuitively based on the time and order in
which messages arrive, factors totally out of reach for user control.
Therefore, there is no 'ability' or 'feature' here, just a bug.
One major annoyance with current behaviour is that it is not always
visible to the user if part of a thread is still collapsed, which can lead
users to miss messages. That can't possibly be by design.
