I tried M2 long ago and gave up because you could not filter by
incoming email account, my main way of categorizing incoming
mail.
Filtering by headers didn't work because for me because many
incoming messages do not have headers identifying the account.
I installed version 9 and looked at the filter manager and it
looked like nothing has changed.
Is that correct? You still can't filter by account?
If you right-click on the mail panel, you can "Show messages from" all
or any one of your accounts, which works as an overall filter on all
your views. You can also add an account selector from the customization
dialog to the mail panel. IIRC, they implemented this early in the 7
series. Maybe this works for you.
The only problem with this option is, is that people often forget they
have used it - and then can't find, say, newsgroups messages, or messages
from certain accounts.
