In other words, Opera is working as designed and there is no bug. You
two seem to be assuming that a thread should either be expanded or
collapsed, whereas the ability to expand only a subthread is very
useful when dealing with long threads and I'd hate to see it taken away
as the result of fixing this "bug".
One major annoyance with current behaviour is that it is not always
visible to the user if part of a thread is still collapsed, which can
lead users to miss messages. That can't possibly be by design.
I've never yet missed a message because of this - the change to bold of a
message when a reply to it arrives is pretty obvious.
Could you please request any change to this as an opera.config level
*option*, because I sure as hell don't want M2 stealing more CPU cycles by
having to reflow all my open mail views (inserting a new expanded entry is
much more work than just bolding one) every time a new message arrives.
