To the best of my knowledge this would constitute a clean install. But
yet, Opera still remembers View settings and Display Period settings for
the Newsgroups!!

Are you sure it's not just using the defaults?

Threaded View still does not work for the Newsgroups.
Any other View Period than Forever shows nothing.

I just did a quick test with the latest 9.52 snapshot. I added
news.opera.com, subscribed to opera.beta, and downloaded 250 headers.
Various periods work and the threads are threaded.

Do you have access to an Intel Mac you could test with to see if you
experience the same there?

Sorry, I have no access to a Intel Mac, only this G4 PPC.

So the question is:
Does Opera have any hidden Prefs, History or Views files other than those
specified in Paths?

No.

Ok.
As you might see from my post yesterday I even tried a full Erase and Install of the O.s. still the same result.

Thanx for the reply.
