I'm exploring switching to Opera 9.5 from Firefox 3, but there are some
things that just don't seem to work very smartly in Opera. For one
thing, I'm confused with the way Opera handles tabs and let me begin by
saying that I have tried all the options (Activate the last active tab,
Activate the next tab, and Activate first tab opened from the current
tab) in Tools | Preferences | Advanced | Tabs and they just don't seem
to work at all.
Let me give you an example. I have a folder on my Personal Bar that
contains three urls in this order: BetaNews, MajorGeeks and SnapFiles.
If I open the folder using the "Open All Folder Items" command, Opera
opens all three but ends up defaulting to the last of the three tabs
(SnapFiles). When I close the SnapFiles tab, Opera goes to MajorGeeks.
When I close the MajorGeeks tab, it goes to BetaNews. In other words,
it seems to navigate among tabs from right to left (or last to first)
rather than from left to right (which I think makes more sense). I
suppose I could live with this. However, the whole thing becomes even
more curious the more I explore it.
Let's take the previous example. I open the three tabs and end up at
SnapFiles. Let's say I open up two additional tabs from SnapFiles that
I want to explore. Those tabs open to the right of the SnapFiles tab.
Now logically I would want to go to the first of those two additional
tabs when I close the SnapFiles tab. But that doesn't happen. Instead,
I go to MajorGeeks, then to BetaNews and only then to the tabs I opened
up when I was at SnapFiles. It doesn't make any sense, especially when
there is an option under Preferences to "Activate first tab opened from
the current tab." Even with that checked, it still goes back to
MajorGeeks, then to BetaNews.
Basically, I am looking for tabs to open relative. If I open three tabs
(A, B, and C), I want to start at A and then go to B when I close A. If
(while I am at B) I open two new tabs (B1 and B2), I want to go to B1,
then to B2, and only then to C when I close B.
Is there any way to fix this?
Perhaps, this will help some:

In addition, when I reopen a closed tab from the Trash Can icon on the
Tab Bar, why does it open in a less than fully maximized state? It's
not that it is minimized. It is like somewhere between minimized and
maximized. Is there any way I can fix this?
