Suddenly I'm getting no Send function. When I click Send or hit
Ctrl-Shift-s the mail goes to the Outbox. The server message
changes for an instant, too quick to be read, then reverts to
Ready to Connect. Re-editing the message any number of times does
the same thing. This account, with nothing changed, worked
smoothly yesterday.

The Check/Send server function does the same thing with regard to
sending, but it does retrieve.

I've got the server set not to queue the messages in the Outbox.

This morning, after a clean boot, the mail sent out without any
problem. Not a thing was changed that I know of, except a
scrollbar appearance detail in my user.css which I have to
believe is inconsequential. Is there any history of the mail
client taking a holiday?

I'm not sure which version you're running, but I've notice with several recent versions that often, after a failed send/receive attempt, it may be as much as 5 minutes before M2 will actually perform the authentication procedures. It seems to have all the appearances of checking, but it doesn't seem to actually go through the process. The give-away here seems to be the speed with which it goes through its authentication...if it is real fast, then I know to wait a while before rechecking. It's more pronounced when you're on a dialup, as I usually am. :-(
