No matter what I try, I cannot get Opera to start with anything but
http://portal.opera.com/startup
i.e. setting a start page does not work.
I should mention that I have my Opera data in a nonstandard location, on a
different partition.
I start Opera with
"C:\Program Files\Opera\Opera.exe" /settings
F:\AOpera\Opera\profile\opera6.ini
This has worked well in the past, before 9.23
(Windows Vista Ultimate Opera 9.23 8808)

Start without any open tabs
empty space ["Home" page!]
Try setting in the "Advanced" tab:
[x] Allow window with no tabs [English version :]
If that doesn't work, try setting some real page as "Home" page.
How about:
about:blank
instead of an empty space as address for the "Home" page? :)
