Something similar works just fine in Opera 6.06. However, in 8.01, the
dialogue box comes up, and just as bad, the directory it offers me is
the default download directory (on another drive), not D:\CBLIGHT.

Do you have an example download link? What mime type does the server use for thesed files?

While we're here, I'd like to over-write existing files. For example,
if I download a file dortmund.pgn and a file with that name already
exists in the download directory, I'd like to overwrite that file
rather than have opera create a file named dortmund (1).pgn, which is
what Opera 6.06 does. There does not seem to be an "overwrite existing
file" option box in 8.01. Of course, I'd want to set it on an
extension-by-extension basis, not globally for all downloads.

Something for opera.wishlist then.

Finally, I'm posting this from Mozilla Firefox. I thought that the
miscommunication between opera and google groups beta had disappeared,
because I had been posting from opera for weeks, but this morning I got
another one of those "you must sign in" followed by the box showing up
empty sequences.
