Or chat or newsfeeds? To permanently prevent the icon from showing, you  
can use a commandline parameter "-notrayicon" on the shortcut you use to  
start Opera. If you use Windows XP or later you can also use the system  
tray are context menu to hide icons from specific programs permanently.
