Note that on http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/ you can find newer test  
versions, development snapshots that are released to the public for  
testing. And you can just upgrade your exisiting test installation with  
these snapshots. You customizations are saved in the profile directory  
which will not be touched upgrades.
