Directories used by beta versions

Sometimes betas create   "<user>/library/application support/opera beta"

while sometimes use the standard "<user>/library/application  
support/opera"   and so overwriting/using/modifying existent settings.

Could it be possible warning the behaviour of betas when a new one is  
available?

I know there is the:
WARNING: These are development snapshots: they contain the latest changes,  
but they also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss  
situations. In fact, they may not work at all.

But this little information would be very useful.
