That should work, but watch for any paths in the .ini files.
On linux, the location used to store the opera data files is specified
with the -pd command line option. It defaults to /home/$user/.opera
Keeping the data for beta versions separate from the regular version
requires using the -pd option. I chose not to keep the regular version,
except for a backup, so for me, just installing the new version, and
running it, is picking up the files from the beta version.
