No, I think what Ramin meant was "reverse DNS".
Maybe the server is trying to do a reverse lookup on your IP address to see
if it can put a hostname into its logfiles ?
Could be, but I administer one of the boxes, and I haven't changed anything
to that effect on it.
I did see the identd requests come across when initiating an FTP
connection, but I'm getting these connection lapses when connecting to
services that don't trigger an identd request (including http).
