Next, here is my question, or my concept of what a testing server is at this
point. Be warned, I am a designer with a right-brain mentality and little but
gold fish swimming on the left-brain side. I need confirmation that I am
getting this, so here goes:

A host server, like where I post my web site, can only offer one site support
at the root level and have everything working properly. If I want another site
through that host, I have to call them and have them set up another hosting
root folder for me at additional cost.

I think this is how the local testing server on my own computer works (even
though I haven't tried it yet.) On my Mac there is one folder that can be used
as a root folder for testing a project I am working on and that is at (this is
what the book says:

Macintosh HD:Users:username:Sites:egdwcs3:(the site or file I am testing.)

And the URL for that location is:

 http://localhost/~username/edgwcs3/

All of that is greek to me, except the concept that there is a location on my
computer, since I have installed PHP and Apache according to the book
instructions and ran the tests to verify that it is indeed alive and well on my
system.

So, all of that said, what I need to do now is find that folder, named above,
on my hard drive, install the PHP document there, and test it from there. I
also gather that I can only have one project at a time in this folder to test,
which makes me wonder, why do I not just post my stuff onto my local host, like
I did a few posts ago, and test it from there - that seems no more work than
testing it from my own computer.

 Whew,

 Ken
