HELP NEEDED: FIRST SWING AT ECOMMERCE

Im doing a site for a catering company and I need to get my hands on some tools 
that would be useful for building the ecommerce part. I havnt really done that 
much with ecommerce and the company wants nothing to do with paypal. They want 
orders to be sent via email to both the company and the customer as well 
(basically as a confirmation) . Any help getting pointed in the right direction 
would be amazing!
