Director 8.5 to 11 only support Shockwave 3D w3d. So, there is no other format 
that
can be imported into Director.

There are tools to convert different 3D formats to Shockwave 3D. Take a look at:
Sw3dC - W3D Converter - http://www.eee-craft.com/sw3dc/
Free tool that converts to Shockwave 3D. It actually is a projector that uses 
the
awaW3DTrans Xtra, which is not free:

On Windows, you can use the 3D SpeedPort Xtra to convert OBJ files to w3d.
