Flash 8 .swf files will work with Director. Flash 9 files saved for Flash 
player 8 and AS2 will work in Director. Flash 9 files saved for player 9 and 
AS3 will not work with Director. 

 If you link a Flash 8 .swf to a Director movie, the .swf remains external and 
can still access additional files like a .css file. So, if you need to use a 
.css file with a Flash 8 .swf then keep both files external to the Director 
movie and link the .swf to the Director movie.
