<cfdirectory> is your server's way of accessing files on the server
and LAN, you can not use
>  http://server_name/directory/
>  http://ip_address/directory/
because they are not local or even close to you AND use http protocol
(cfdirectory can not use that).
As for
>  \\server_name\directory\
>  \\ip_address\directory
access to those is subject to your permissions.
