I don't know for certain, but I strongly suspect that this limitation of
copper is artificial. It may be that fiber has greater speeds available
beyond what's currently being sold, but it should be possible to get
more out of DSL in order to be competitive with the current fios
options. As I said before, I know people in Europe with 12-20mbit
connections.
