[laptop-discuss] A couple of NWAM issues.

I am running B63 on a Ferrari 3400 with a Gigabyte GN-W10xx wireless
card. I get kind of sketchy results connecting to WEP encrypted WLANS.
Sometimes I get connected, but don't get an address. Sometimes I don't
get connected at all. Sometimes doing an enable/disable cycle on
nwam fixes it, sometimes it requires one or more reboots.

The closer I look at it with diagnostic tools, the more likely it is
to work (really! It's kind of spooky that way), so I don't have a
real good idea what is going on. But one thing I do know is that
NWAM and dladm are very unhelpful about what the current state is.
On Windows XP I can look at the network icon and see what is happening.
Not so on OpenSolaris.

Another thing, is there any way to get NWAM to ignore a network? There
is another location I go to that has about 4 or 5 WLANS on the radar.
A couple of those are WEP encrypted, including the one I want, but
some of the others are weaker but have no encryption. The problem I
have is that when the one I want is unavailable (most likely to the
same cause as in the above paragraph) it latches on one of the open
ones. And since they are fairly weak, they tend to flap. How to I
tell NWAM to never consider one of these?

"When Congress started Daylight Savings Time earlier, did
they even consider what affect an extra hour of daylight
would have on global warming? Well, did they?"
