Mission accomplished!

The stupid little battery is underneath the motherboard, right between the 
DVD drive and the side of the laptop's case.  It wouldn't have taken much to 
add another removable panel there and not have this be such a ridiculous 
operation.

I still think placing it in the case right beside the larger main lith-ion 
battery would be the right thing to do - and no need for an additional panel 
as the larger battery would hide/protect it.
