Use the patch command. Go into the gcc dir and type
patch -p0 < <patchfile>

I didn't type that: the useless POS Google groups mangles email
addresses, even inside a message body. Here it is, as best i can:
gcc-help <at> gcc.gnu.org
You'll get quicker responses that way.
I'm very surprised that you're trying to build such an old gcc
release, given your lack of experience. There are reasons to build an
old gcc, but this is normally something an expert might want to do for
some special reason. I have to wonder what your purpose might be.
