I think some people missed this point during the discussion: 3gpp and other SDOs who adopted ieee .11 technology, started to work on the unauthenticated access by their own a while back. Thus, if ieee didn't address and provide a native solution for the unauthenticated case, then 3gpp/3gpp2, etc., would define their own solutions which would probably be different from each other, resulting in solutions tied to carriers. Would that be better?
