Dear Friends and Colleagues -
This sent to me by a friend.
This might be analogous, in its "establishment bias," to the long
struggle for the recognition of the connection between Helicobacter
pylori and ulcers. That took about 20 years, from discovery around
1981 to a Nobel Prize in 2005.
HIV is a hugely more complex and greater scourge, and AIDS
(treatment) research is a vast industry, with the turning radius of
an aircraft carrier. It will be interesting to see what recognition
and funding is available for research toward a cure, for which this
case is an interesting existence proof.
