I've been running my own webserver (2 domains, with all the bells &
whistles) plus mail, plus anything else I want - including DNS & etc.
for years. The risk is managable if you're willing to learn. In
fact, I highly recommend it as a way to learn. Start with learning
about a good firewall, and when you're comfortable, move to your
podcasting. DO NOT START THE OTHER WAY AROUND!
It's not like someone can penetrate your exposed system unless you're
running server(s) - just stay aware of what you're running and
configure it properly. Checking the logs regulary & running snort is a
good idea too, if you're really worried about security.
